Light is what brought us together. An interest in LiDAR (a survey methodology that measures a light pulse returning from a point), modern signal processing, deep learning and opto-electronics. Headlight AI shines a light on problems in difficult environments: deep underground where there is no GPS, in poor weather: fog, snow, and software that can ‘see’ different materials.
My fascination with what things are made of and how things work is at the centre of this company. I love seeing science turned to practical applications. I have worked in both academic and industrial research and development (R&D), with a mixed technical background in chemistry, optoelectronics, and photophysics. I have a commercial background in financial and technical consulting, and have helped hundreds of technology companies secure R&D funding. I co-founded Headlight AI to pursue my passion in light based sensing, and to enable new technologies in autonomous sensing and mapping.

My role is to be in charge of technology at Headlight AI. I have over 10 years of research and development (R&D) experience in the defence and hi-tech industry. My aim is to link science and practice for a better world and I bring that ethos to Headlight AI. I enjoy challenging problems, e.g. environmental monitoring using advanced sensors, data analytics for security and bad weather driving using autonomous systems. I have filed several patents, won an innovation award at BAE Systems and also published several papers. My interests are in solid-state LiDAR, signal processing, compressive sensing, software development and deep learning.

My background in film means years of working with light and narrative. Those relate to my role at Headlight AI where we are focused on light and sensors, and in my case: listening to our clients and telling our stories. Insatiable curiosity is one of my main motivators.

I have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, specialising in hardware automated syntheiss, design and acceleration. I am an ex EPSRC doctoral prize fellow at University of Manchester. At Healight AI my role is to accelerate modern deep learning and signal processing techniques for edge devices. I am an entrepreneur with over 3+ years experiece with start-ups. Prior to joining Headlight AI, I co-founded Reconfigure.io , providing hardware acceleration solutions to the cloud.

I have a background in Physics and this has given me a solid grounding in the fundamentals, especially engineering, control and imaging techniques. I have over 5 years of experience in the field of 3D - accurate scanning of organic objects, especially people, for medical, security and commercial applications.
I am passionate about delivering technology to real-world applications, particularly the ability to change the world positively. What I want to see most is our technology out there, being used every day! What drew me to Headlight AI is the pursuit of compressive sensing, and fast on-device mapping of the world around us. I am very excited by the innovative approach here, and the amazing, technology focused team around me.
Software Engineer (Robotics)
My passion lies in combining my engineering skills with cutting-edge technology and robotic design to create solutions for real-world problems. I have worked on numerous projects during my academic career bringing my ideas to life through creative thinking and engineering skills. I enojoy working on mobile robot localisation and mapping, image processing and mechanical design.
Senior Systems Engineer (Robotics)
I have a background in Aerospace Engineering and a PhD in dynamics and control of unmanned aerial vehicles, focusing on navigation, contol and simulation of UAVs for autonomous aerial refuelling. Over the last few year i’ve worked on several autonomous driving projects including the LUTZ pathfinder project which is the first UK programme to test an autonomous vehicle in unsegregated public space. During this time, i’ve worked on several aspects of the techonology spectrum, includng sensor integration, development of autonomous control system, hardware and software in the loop test platform, etc. I was also part of the team that helped develop the connected and autonomous vehicles test laboratory (CAVLab) in Milton Keynes to accelerate the development of CAV technologies in the UK.
