Headlight AI developing software for the CHIMERA project

by | Dec 16, 2019

Headlight AI continues to make progress in the development of sensor processing and localisation software for the CHIMERA robot, as part of a £3.5 million Innovate UK-funded project. Headlight AI is joined by the following partners on the project; Rolls Royce plc, Forth Engineering Limited, Sound Mathematics Limited, Metallisation Limited, The Welding Institute (TWI), the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), and the University of Nottingham.

CHIMERA is a mobile inspection and repair robot that will revolutionise inspection, repair, and maintenance in restricted and difficult-to-access environments. The project is currently focussed on Group 2 pressure vessels, with the aim of conducting inspection and repair within these vessels without breaking containment or depressurising. The technology will also be relevant for nuclear steam generators and gas turbine engine inspection and repair.
